Two days ago you were giving Mom your baby doll, and you were so happy to watch her pat its back. Did you know something that we didn’t? The next day your mom found out that she was pregnant. When she told you that there was a baby inside her belly, you jumped up and down and smiled. We hope you will be that happy when your younger sibling comes out!
This morning we had our first parent-teacher conference with your preschool teacher, Miss Kristen. She is very happy about your progress so far. At this point, you only go to preschool on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, but when the new school year starts in August you might go in the mornings four times a week. You have an excellent teacher. We had a choice of teachers when we first enrolled you, but when I met Miss Kristen I knew that she had to be the one. She thinks you are really cute and so funny. You constantly tell everyone what color everything is and find shapes. Your favorite shape seems to be an octagon even though they don’t have any octagons in the classroom. I taught you that shape when driving around and seeing all the stop signs. Kristen laughed and said, “If Vivi doesn’t want to do something, she’s not going to do it.” You love daily routines and do really well when the day goes as planned. If the routine get interrupted (like one day for school pictures), you don’t feel comfortable with the changes and get a little defiant. But most days your behavior is excellent and you love school. You are always smiling and happy to be there. We hope you will have the same attitude when you are older haha.
These days whenever I start a sentence with “You wanna….” you already know how you are going to respond before I finish. “No, I don’t.” Such an independent little one! However, even after you say no, there are certain things that you do like so you change your mind a few second later. For example, you do enjoy eating your vitamins, riding on the back of mom’s bike, and watching us exercise! We are on day 53 of Tony Horton’s P90X3 program, and you love to bounce on your trampoline while watching us work out on the yoga mats. Because I have fatty liver and have been having trouble losing weight, I’ve been supplementing these workouts with 30 minutes on the elliptical in the evening. I turn on my workout playlist and you love to sit in the office chair for the full 30 minutes and just listen and watch. I’m pretty sure you enjoy the music more than the elliptical machine though. Here are some of the songs we listen to:
1) AWOLNATION – Sail (You like to sing the word sail)
2) Foster The People – Pumped Up Kicks
3) M.I.A – Paper Planes
4) MGMT – Kids
5) The Lumineers – Ho Hey
6) Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know
7) Imagine Dragons – Radioactive
8) MGMT – Time To Pretend
9) M83 – Midnight City
10) Len – Steal My Sunshine
One of your favorite things to do is sing. Here are some of your favorite songs right now:
- Itsy Bitsy Spider
- ABC Song
- Wheels on the Bus
- Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star
- “1, 2, 3, 4” by Feist (from Sesame Street Singing with the Stars)
- Little Einsteins Theme Song
- It’s a Small World
I decided to buy a speaker for multiple purposes, one of which is our home entertainment system. It also can accept two microphone inputs, so I also bought mics. Usually it takes you some time to warm up to new things, but you took to the microphones right away. You really like the sound of your own voice! Your Chinese grandparents are coming to visit for six months soon, so I have a feeling that your grandma will like to sing some duets with you.
Yesterday was your 4th day of preschool. It was the first time you didn’t fall asleep exhausted in the back of the car on the way home!
When we arrived yesterday, the door was locked. They only open doors at the Early Education Center during departure/arrival times, and we got there a little early. But you couldn’t wait to go in. You dug into my pocket for me car keys and tried to unlock the door yourself with them. They weren’t the right keys, but hey, at least you are a problem solver!
I know I have been really bad about updating this blog! Let’s see if I can be more diligent.
Last night your mom and I took you trick-or-treating for the first time in your life. You were dressed as a cat with a little cat bag. You didn’t care about the candy at all! Instead, you just wanted to run into everyone’s house and check things out. First we went to our neighbors, Randy and Mary. They know us so they didn’t mind. The second home was Randy and Mary’s parents so they didn’t mind either. The third neighbor we didn’t know very well; I didn’t let you run inside so you threw a bit of a fit. After that, we were done for the night since we couldn’t keep you out of everyone’s living room! We are happy that you are not shy or passive about going for what you want in front of strangers. I think you will have lots of friends later on in life.
